28 Sex Buyers, Commercial Sex Ring, Massachusetts 2024
Twenty-eight men, accused of buying sex in a commercial sex ring, face charges in what federal authorities say is a major crackdown on the industry.
The alleged sex buyers, whose names have not been released as no probable cause has been found, are set to appear in the Cambridge District Court, according to a statement from Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy.
Levy's office announced charges of a commercial sex ring case on November 8, 2023, stating that the investigation was ongoing and that there would be accountability for the buyers who fuel the commercial sex industry.
A Homeland Security Investigations Task Force Officer with the Cambridge Police Department submitted applications for complaints against the alleged sex buyers, according to Levy.
Levy says his office is working closely with Virginia state authorities to begin the referral process of sex buyers from the Virginia locations in this case.
While the referral processes remain ongoing, Levy's office has made it clear that it will continue to pursue those who engage in commercial sex.
The alleged sex buyers, if found to have probable cause, will face criminal charges. Referrals will then be made to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.
This case marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and commercial sex in the region.
