Aaron Atkins, Cocaine Distribution, Pennsylvania 2016

Aaron Atkins, 34, a resident of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty to a serious crime: conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.

The crime occurred in the Western District of Pennsylvania, with the cocaine shipped from California to the region through the United States Postal Service or commercial carrier. Atkins was intercepted over the wire conspiring with others to possess and distribute the illicit substance.

A 2013 multi-agency wiretap investigation into drug trafficking and violence in the Homewood section of Pittsburgh led to Atkins' indictment. The investigation, which began in December 2013 and continued through August 2014, involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other agencies.

Atkins' guilty plea was entered before United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak. Sentencing is scheduled for May 16, 2016. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, Atkins faces a minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, as well as a fine of up to $5,000,000.

Assistant United States Attorney Tonya Sulia Goodman is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Greater Pittsburgh Safe Streets Task Force, and other law enforcement agencies conducted the investigation that led to Atkins' prosecution.
