Brooklyn Man Sentenced for Possessing a Handgun with an Obliterated Serial Number

ALBANY, NEW YORK - Adam Gomez, age 27, of Brooklyn, New York, was sentenced today to 11 months in prison, to be followed by 3 years of supervised release, for possessing a handgun with an obliterated serial number.

According to court documents, Gomez admitted to unlawfully possessing a Glock 17 handgun with an obliterated serial number on September 8, 2022, in a parking lot of a shopping mall in Albany County.

The case was investigated by the Buffalo Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Belliss prosecuted the case.

Gomez's sentence was announced by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Matthew Scarpino, Special Agent in Charge of the Buffalo Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

The exact date of the crime and the sentencing date are the same, both on September 8, 2022.

Gomez's sentence of 11 months in prison is a result of his guilty plea and the subsequent investigation and prosecution of the case.
