Wyoming Man Charged with Methamphetamine Possession and Firearm Crime

An indictment has been handed down against Adam Lee Godwin, a 35-year-old man from Sheridan, Wyoming, for allegedly being in possession of methamphetamine and firearms. The indictment, which contains allegations of a controlled substance user possessing a firearm, also accuses Godwin of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Godwin appeared before Federal District Court Judge Nancy D. Freudenthal on October 12, 2021 for an arraignment hearing, during which he pleaded not guilty to the charges. The judge subsequently set a jury trial for December 13, 2021 in Cheyenne.

Godwin was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshals Service, awaiting trial. The charges carry a term of five to 40 years imprisonment, up to five years of supervised release, and over $5 million in fines and special assessments.

The investigation into Godwin's activities was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office. Assistant United States Attorney Jonathon C. Coppom is prosecuting the case.

An indictment is merely an allegation and does not constitute evidence of guilt. Godwin is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Godwin's alleged crimes carry severe penalties. The maximum sentence for his charges ranges from five to 40 years imprisonment and includes fines of over $5 million. The exact outcome of the case will be determined by the court's verdict.

As the case continues, the public is reminded that an indictment is merely a formal accusation and does not imply guilt. Godwin will have the opportunity to defend himself in court and prove his innocence.
