A Hammond resident's day will be filled with nothing but bars for the next seven years. Akeem Jackson, 29 years old, of Chicago, Illinois, was sentenced to 87 months in prison after pleading guilty to Hobbs Act Robbery and Possession of a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence, announced United States Attorney Thomas L. Kirsch II.

On April 28, 2018, Jackson and others robbed a Brinks armored car while a Brinks employee was servicing an ATM at a Chase Bank in Hammond, Indiana. During the robbery, Jackson disarmed the Brinks employee by taking his firearm. Jackson stole approximately $617,000 during the robbery.
