In a move to rid the streets of illicit substances, the authorities have made a significant dent with the sentencing of Albert Portusuch Mendiola, Jr.

According to court documents, Mendiola, a 32-year-old resident of Tamuning, Guam, was arrested on December 5, 2012, for possession of 9.7 grams of methamphetamine.

The items found in Mendiola's possession at the time of his arrest included 9.7 grams of methamphetamine, an electronic scale, several cut straws, and plastic baggies.

The investigation, which spanned across different agencies, involved federal agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), and officers from the Guam Police Department (GPD).

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Clyde Lemons, Jr., who ensured that justice was served in the District Court of Guam before Senior Judge Alex R. Munson.

Mendiola pleaded guilty to the charges, and as a result, he was sentenced to 46 months imprisonment, three years supervised release, and 50 hours community service.

With this sentencing, the authorities aim to send a strong message that possession and distribution of illicit substances will not be tolerated in their community.
