In 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice launched a federal investigation into the activities of Alejandro Cardenas, a 35-year-old resident of Chicago, Illinois. The case, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (ILND Federal District), revealed a complex web of violent crimes that had been committed in the region.

According to court documents, Alejandro Cardenas was charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and use of a firearm during a crime of violence. These charges were brought forward after an extensive investigation by the FBI and local law enforcement agencies.

The investigation, which began in 2019, uncovered a pattern of violent behavior by Cardenas and his associates. The evidence collected during the investigation included eyewitness testimony, surveillance footage, and physical evidence linking Cardenas to the crimes.

On September 1, 2020, Cardenas was taken into custody by federal authorities and subsequently charged with the aforementioned crimes. He was held without bail pending a hearing, which was scheduled to take place later that month.

After a lengthy trial, Alejandro Cardenas was found guilty on all counts. On January 15, 2022, the defendant was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for his role in the violent crimes.

The case serves as a reminder of the severity of violent crimes and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. The U.S. Department of Justice's commitment to investigating and prosecuting such crimes has helped to keep communities safer and has brought justice to the victims and their families.
