Alejandro Castillo, Violent Crime, Illinois 2004

On January 14, 2004, the United States Department of Justice filed a federal indictment against Alejandro Castillo in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Castillo, a resident of Chicago, Illinois, was charged with one count of first-degree murder in aid of racketeering activity, a felony offense under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

According to court documents, Castillo was accused of participating in the murder of a rival gang member in a Chicago neighborhood. Investigators alleged that Castillo's actions were part of a larger scheme to expand the Gang's control over the local territory. Castillo's alleged involvement in the murder was said to have been witnessed by multiple eyewitnesses, including a cooperating witness who testified against him. Castillo's defense team argued that their client was not directly involved in the murder, but prosecutors presented substantial evidence contradicting this claim. Castillo maintained his innocence throughout the trial. He was found guilty on all charges and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Castillo's conviction was later upheld by the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
