FRESNO, Calif. — Alejandro Galvan-Silvestre, a 23-year-old man, was arrested today, charged with knowingly aiming the beam of a laser pointer at Air One, a Kern County Sheriff’s Office helicopter.
According to court documents, on September 5, 2021, Galvan-Silvestre aimed the beam of a laser pointer at Air One.
The case is the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bakersfield Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Escobar is prosecuting the case.
Galvan-Silvestre is facing a maximum statutory penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, if convicted.
The charges are only allegations; Galvan-Silvestre is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
A federal grand jury returned the indictment on August 25, 2022. It was unsealed today after Galvan-Silvestre’s arrest.
