A Carbon County man has been brought to justice for his role in a cocaine trafficking ring. Alexander Sommers, 47, of Summit Hill, pleaded guilty today to aiding and abetting the distribution of cocaine.

According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, Sommers admitted to assisting others in distributing crack cocaine and powder cocaine in the Carbon County area between January 2011 and December 2012. This admission comes after his former girlfriend, Victoria Argott, was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison for participating in the same cocaine trafficking conspiracy.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Nesquehoning and Lansford Police Departments in Carbon County. Assistant United States Attorney Robert J. O’Hara is handling the case.

The maximum penalty for Sommers' crime is 40 years' imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. However, the actual sentence will depend on various factors, including the nature and seriousness of the offense, Sommers' history and characteristics, and the need to punish him, protect the public, and provide for his educational, vocational, and medical needs.
