Long Island Gang Leader Sentenced for Shooting Rivals

Alton Gore, also known as A-Murder, the leader of the Outlaws street gang, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for shooting two rivals in Hempstead, New York.

Gore pleaded guilty on April 6, 2018, to assault in aid of racketeering and discharging a firearm in connection with a crime of violence. The sentence was announced by United States Attorney Richard P. Donoghue, FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William F. Sweeney, and Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder.

The shooting occurred on September 14, 2014, when Gore and two Outlaws members opened fire into a house in Hempstead where Bloods members were watching a boxing match. One gang member was hit in the leg and a second gang member lost an eye.

This is not the first time Gore has been involved in gang violence. In 2013, Outlaws gang member Pedro Merchant shot and killed 17-year-old Dante Quinones in Hempstead over gang allegiances. Following Quinones' murder, Gore led Outlaws members in a year-long gang war between the Outlaws and the Bloods, which included multiple shootings.

The case is part of a larger effort to rid Long Island of the Outlaws and other street gangs. To date, six members of the Outlaws and six members of the Bloods have been prosecuted for their participation in the violent gang war. The following individuals have been sentenced or pleaded guilty:

Pedro Merchant, a member of the Outlaws, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the September 11, 2013, murder of Dante Quinones. Everett Brown, an associate of the Outlaws, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a shooting of a rival gang member's home. Philip Saunders, a member of the Bloods, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a May 9, 2014, assault of a rival gang member. Khalil Brown and Naree Barnes, members of the Bloods, were each sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting at a rival gang member on October 21, 2014. Billy McLen, a member of the Bloods, pleaded guilty to attempted murder in aid of racketeering and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence and is awaiting sentence.
