Alvin Running Horse, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, South Dakota 2019
A 40-year-old man from Rosebud, South Dakota, has been charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Alvin Running Horse, Jr., was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 11, 2019 for allegedly possessing a firearm, despite having a previous felony conviction.
The maximum penalty for this crime is up to 10 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund
Running Horse appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on July 26, 2019, and pled not guilty to the Indictment.
The Indictment alleges that on April 23, 2019, at Rosebud, Running Horse knowingly possessed a firearm, despite having previously been convicted of a felony.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone.
The investigation is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson is prosecuting the case.
Running Horse was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial, with a trial date set for September 24, 2019.
