Amir Jahed, Mail Fraud, New York 2023
Defendant Sentenced for Defrauding NY Aerospace Company
BUFFALO, N.Y. - U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced today that Amir Jahed, a 50-year-old man from Montgomery Village, Maryland, who was convicted of mail fraud, was sentenced to serve 24 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.
Jahed, a former employee of Cobham Mission Systems, a company headquartered in Orchard Park, NY, that was engaged in the development, delivery, and support of aerospace and defense technology and systems, was assigned company credit cards and was authorized to make certain purchases on behalf of Cobham for its business operations.
However, Jahed used his company purchase cards to conduct approximately 600 unauthorized transactions, claiming that the transactions were purchases of parts for Cobham’s business operations. In truth and in fact, the defendant did not purchase any parts for Cobham; rather, he used the purchase cards to direct funds into accounts controlled by him, resulting in a loss of $832,003 to Cobham.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Caitlin M. Higgins stated that after Jahed used a purchase card fraudulently to obtain funds, he mailed fraudulent invoices to Cobham headquarters in support of the fraudulent transactions to give the appearance that the purchases were made to support Cobham’s business operations.
The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Buffalo Office, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Stephen Belongia.
Jahed’s conviction on mail fraud charges was a result of his actions between 2010 and July 19, 2018.
