Harrisburg Man Sentenced to 24 Months in Prison for Aggravated Identity Theft
A Harrisburg man has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for his role in a brazen case of aggravated identity theft. Amisial Elveus, 32, used credit card account numbers belonging to unsuspecting individuals to code credit cards and pay for gasoline fill-ups at a local gas station.
According to court documents, Elveus committed the crime between July 6, 2020, and November 6, 2020, in Dauphin County. He was arrested on November 6, 2020, while in the process of filling cars with gas that he paid for with a fraudulently encoded credit card.
Elveus was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Jennifer P. Wilson to 24 months in prison to be followed by 12 months of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $32,227.71.
The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and the Lower Paxton Township Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian T. Haugsby prosecuted the case.
