Amy Lynn Snow, Social Security Fraud, Pennsylvania 2013

Amy Lynn Snow, a 54-year-old resident of Butler, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty to charges of theft of government funds, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced today.

According to the information presented to the court, Snow falsely reported to the Social Security Administration that her spouse was not a member of her household from August 7, 2013, through September 30, 2017, knowing that his status as a member of the household and his income would affect her entitlement to Social Security Income benefits.

The amount of loss suffered by the Social Security Administration by reason of Snow’s theft was $45,422.61.

Snow pleaded guilty to one count of Theft of Government Funds before Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak.

Sentencing will be scheduled by the court. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Snow has been granted bond pending sentencing. Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn J. Bloch is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The Social Security Administration – Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Snow.

With a guilty plea, Snow now faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both. The exact sentence will be determined by the court during sentencing. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of honesty when interacting with government agencies, and the severe consequences that can result from dishonesty.
