Andrew Chu, Possession of Child Pornography, New Jersey 2024
A Edison, New Jersey man has been charged with possession of child pornography, according to court documents.
Andrew Chu, 33, of Edison, used his computer to view images of child sexual abuse from May 2023 through November 2023, including depictions involving pre-pubescent children, prosecutors claim.
The U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Philip R. Sellinger, announced the charges against Chu today.
According to documents, Chu was convicted of possession of child pornography in a prior federal prosecution in 2021. As a repeat offender, he faces a mandatory minimum term of 10 years in prison, a maximum of 20 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine.
Chu made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leda Dunn Wettre in Newark federal court on April 18, 2024, and was detained.
The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations Newark, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge William S. Walker.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ariel Douek of the General Crimes Unit in Newark.
The charge and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations, and Andrew Chu is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
