Andrew David Salas, Child Sexual Exploitation, Florida 2023
Andrew David Salas, a 35-year-old registered sex offender, has been charged with multiple child sexual exploitation offenses, including interstate travel with the intent to engage in sexual conduct with a child, interstate transportation of a child to engage in sexual activity, production, attempted production, and possession of child sexual abuse materials, and committing felony offenses involving a child while required to register as a sex offender.
According to the indictment, Salas was arrested at his residence on November 3, 2022, and has been in custody since that time. He is scheduled for arraignment on May 4, 2023.
Salas, a registered sex offender, was previously convicted of carnal knowledge of a minor child in Virginia in 2008.
Salas faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 25 years, up to life, in federal prison, and a lifetime of supervised release if convicted.
An indictment is only an allegation, and every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
This case was investigated by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia State Attorney General’s Office, the United States Marshals Service, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Atlanta and Jacksonville. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys D. Rodney Brown and Kelly S. Karase.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
