Andrew Jacobs, Brandishing Firearm, Indiana 2018

SOUTH BEND, Indiana - In a shocking display of violence, Andrew Jacobs, age 20, of South Bend, Indiana, has been sentenced for brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. The disturbing incident took place on an unspecified date, with Jacobs and his accomplice, Lorenzo Crawford, working together to place an advertisement for escort services on the notorious website Backpage.com.

A man, responding to the ad, arranged to have sex with a fictitious prostitute at a room in a hotel. Jacobs and Crawford waited for the unsuspecting victim, grabbed him when he came to the room, and proceeded to beat him. In a chilling twist, one of the defendants brought a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver with them, which was used to beat the victim. The defendants also took cash, credit cards, and a cell phone from the victim.

While the victim was at the hotel, one of the defendants also checked the victim's car for money or other valuables. This heinous crime was investigated by the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys John Maciejczyk and Ken Hays handling the case.

Andrew Jacobs, 20, was sentenced by South Bend District Court Judge Jon E. DeGuilio to 84 months imprisonment followed by 2 years of supervised release. This harsh sentence serves as a warning to those who would engage in such violent and despicable behavior.

Lorenzo Crawford, Jacobs' accomplice, was also sentenced in the same case on April 26, 2018, to 84 months in prison followed by 2 years of supervised release.
