Anquavion Claybon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Iowa 2020

Anquavion Claybon's violent crime spree finally caught up with him as he was sentenced to 110 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa.

Claybon, 22, of Waterloo, Iowa, pleaded guilty to the charge on August 21, 2020. He admitted to possessing a firearm after having been convicted of two previous felony offenses involving firearms.

On January 19, 2020, Claybon used a firearm to rob a victim in Waterloo, stealing money from the victim. He and others then assaulted the victim.

Claybon's prison term is the result of a guilty plea to being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams.

Claybon was ordered to make $105 in restitution. He must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Claybon is being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a violent crime reduction initiative.

This case is also part of Project Guardian, the U.S. Attorney's Office's signature initiative to reduce gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kyndra Lundquist and investigated by a Federal Task Force composed of the Waterloo Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms assisted by the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office and Cedar Falls Police Department.
