ALBANY, NEW YORK - A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for traveling to New York to have sex with a child.

Anthony Beckwith, 36, of Sheffield, Massachusetts, was sentenced on February 10, 2020, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York.

According to court documents, Beckwith admitted to communicating with a man he believed to be offering his 12- or 14-year-old stepdaughter for sex. He then drove from Sheffield to Albany to have sex with the child on February 1, 2019.

However, Beckwith drove off after observing what he believed to be law enforcement and was later arrested. He ultimately admitted to traveling to Albany with the intent to have sex with the child.

In addition to his prison sentence, Beckwith was also sentenced to a 10-year term of supervised release, which will begin following his term of imprisonment. He was ordered to pay $5,100 in assessments and will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the New York State Police, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Cyrus P.W. Rieck.

Beckwith's exact criminal charges were not specified in the press release, but he was convicted of traveling in interstate commerce to have sex with someone whom he believed to be a 12- or 14-year-old girl.
