Anthony Jerome Lang, Heroin and Fentanyl Conspiracy, Florida 2018

Federal authorities have taken a major hit against a Tampa-based heroin and fentanyl ring, unsealing an indictment charging five individuals with conspiracy to distribute thousands of doses of the deadly substances.

According to the indictment, from at least June 2017 through February 2018, Anthony Jerome Lang (60, Tampa); Travell Kinkay Jones (40, West Palm Beach); Vanzini Nicholas Hansell (37, Tampa); Amber Miller (32, Tampa); and Carlton Reid Mallard (61, Tampa) participated in a conspiracy to distribute heroin, fentanyl, and fentanyl analogues in the Middle District of Florida.

The indictment alleges the group distributed over one kilogram of heroin, 400 grams of fentanyl, and 100 grams of a fentanyl analogue. If convicted, each of the five defendants faces a maximum penalty of life in federal prison.

This case is the result of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task force investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the Tampa Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol. The principal mission of the OCDETF program is to identify, disrupt, and dismantle the most serious drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, and money laundering organizations, and those organizations primarily responsible for the nation’s illegal drug supply.

The case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dan Baeza. An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has violated one or more of the federal criminal laws, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.

The Tampa community has been plagued by the devastating effects of heroin and fentanyl addiction. The unsealing of this indictment is a significant step in the fight against these deadly substances and the individuals who seek to profit from their distribution.
