Local Man Convicted of Distributing Heroin That Led to Death

LONDON, KY - In a harsh blow to the opioid epidemic, 29-year-old Anthony Lacortiglia has been found guilty of conspiring to distribute heroin and distributing heroin that resulted in the death of another.

On May 4, 2012, Lacortiglia provided the fatal dose of heroin to John Latham, who tragically died as a result. The defendant also admitted to conspiring with others to distribute heroin within Pulaski County.

Lacortiglia's conviction is a significant victory in the fight against heroin overdose deaths, which have been on the rise in the Eastern District of Kentucky. U.S. Attorney Kerry B. Harvey emphasized the importance of cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement in combating this growing epidemic.

The investigation into Lacortiglia's activities was a joint effort between Detective Jason Browning of the Kentucky State Police, Detective Darrell Kegley of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, Sergeant Jon Williams of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, Agent Mike Walters of the Lake Cumberland Area Drug Task Force, and various agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Assistant United States Attorney Jason Parman prosecuted the case, which highlights the commitment of law enforcement to hold drug dealers accountable for the consequences of their actions.

Lacortiglia's guilty plea has led to a significant sentence: 240 months in prison, contingent on no changes to the law surrounding overdose deaths.
