Anthony McCoy, Heroin Trafficking, Pennsylvania 2021

SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA - A New Jersey man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for his role in a heroin trafficking conspiracy. Anthony McCoy, 36, was sentenced on June 8, 2021, by United States District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani to 132 months' imprisonment for his crimes.

According to Acting United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, McCoy pleaded guilty to a heroin trafficking conspiracy and admitted to distributing and possessing with intent to distribute between 1 kilogram and 3 kilograms of heroin between August 2016 and February 2018. One kilogram of heroin is equivalent to approximately 40,000 individual doses.

McCoy must serve an additional four years under supervised release after completing his prison term. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Stroud Area Regional Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean A. Camoni is prosecuting the case.

This case was brought as part of a district-wide initiative to combat the nationwide epidemic of heroin use and distribution. The Heroin Initiative targets heroin traffickers operating in the Middle District of Pennsylvania and is part of a coordinated effort among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who commit heroin-related offenses.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that has been historically successful in bringing together all levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. The PSN program was reinvigorated in 2017 as part of the Department's renewed focus on targeting violent criminals.
