Anthony Rogers, Gun Crime, St. Louis MO, 2022

ST. LOUIS, MO – A brazen flight from St. Louis police ended with 35-year-old Anthony L. Rogers of St. Louis facing federal charges Friday, accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The chase, which unfolded Thursday, stemmed from a connection to a November 30 homicide still under investigation.

According to court documents, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department was actively searching for Rogers and the GMC Yukon SUV he was driving in relation to the earlier homicide. When officers spotted the vehicle, they attempted a traffic stop, but Rogers allegedly floored it, initiating a high-speed pursuit that snaked through city streets and onto area highways.

The chase wasn’t just about evading arrest; Rogers actively attempted to ditch the evidence. The complaint alleges that during the pursuit, which stretched into St. Louis County and then north on Interstate 55, Rogers tossed a Glock 9mm pistol out of the SUV’s window. He then continued onto Interstate 70, discarding the pistol’s magazine along the way, before exiting onto Riverview Boulevard and finally being taken into custody.

Federal prosecutors have charged Rogers with being a felon in possession of a firearm, a serious offense carrying a potential sentence of up to 15 years behind bars. He also faces a hefty $250,000 fine if convicted. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri is handling the prosecution, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Finlen leading the charge.

The investigation was a joint effort between the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). While the charges are significant, it’s crucial to remember that Rogers is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case is expected to move forward quickly, adding another layer to the city’s ongoing struggle with gun violence.

Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as they become available. Rogers’ arrest highlights the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement in St. Louis and the federal agencies working to stem the tide of illegal firearms and violent crime. The investigation into the November 30 homicide remains active.
