Published January 5, 2016

Newark, NJ - In a harsh sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge William H. Walls, Anthony Stango, a 34-year-old associate of the DeCavalcante crime family, will spend the next 6 years behind bars for his involvement in cocaine distribution and a planned prostitution operation.

According to court documents, Stango was arrested on March 12, 2015, as part of a sweep of 10 members of the DeCavalcante crime family. The family's crimes spanned multiple offenses, including fraud, distribution of controlled substances, prostitution, and violence. Stango's specific charges include conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, use of the telephone in interstate commerce to promote a prostitution operation, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Stango's cocaine distribution ring sold a total of 1,915 grams of cocaine to an undercover law enforcement officer on eight separate occasions between December 2014 and March 2015. In addition to his drug operation, Stango also worked to set up a prostitution operation in New Jersey, discussing details with a conspirator living in Nevada.

As a convicted felon, Stango is also in possession of an H&R Pardner 12-gauge pump action shotgun, which is a separate charge. U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman credited the FBI's Organized Crime Task Force, the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor, the Bayonne Police Department, and the N.J. State Commission of Investigation for their roles in the investigation.

Anthony Stango, whose defense counsel is Gary Mizzone Esq., was sentenced to 72 months in prison. He will also serve 5 years of supervised release after his prison term. The government was represented by Senior Litigation Counsel V. Grady O'Malley and Assistant U.S. Attorney James Donnelly.

The DeCavalcante crime family has a long history of involvement in organized crime, with a wide range of offenses attributed to its members. This sentence is the latest in a series of crackdowns on the family's activities.

Stango's case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat organized crime and its associated activities in New Jersey and beyond.
