Anthony Whitley Sentenced to 5 Years in Federal Prison

A New London man has been sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for his role in a narcotics trafficking operation. Anthony Whitley, 35, of Hartford and New London, was sentenced on March 3, 2017 to 60 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release, for trafficking narcotics.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on March 3, 2017, a court-authorized search of a New London apartment connected to Whitley and his nephew, Bashon Whitley, revealed approximately 14 grams of heroin, approximately 27 grams of cocaine, approximately 150 grams of crack cocaine, items used to process and package narcotics for street sale, a .380 caliber semiautomatic handgun, ammunition, and $9,180 in cash.

Whitley has eight prior convictions, including state felony convictions for drug and firearm offenses. His nephew, Bashon Whitley, was also involved in the operation and pleaded guilty to the same charge on May 30, 2018. Bashon Whitley was sentenced to 60 months of imprisonment on September 5.

This matter has been investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force East, and New London Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Natasha M. Freismuth.

Whitley has been detained since his arrest on March 3, 2017. On July 31, 2018, he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin, cocaine, and 28 grams or more of cocaine base (“crack”).
