Antonio Marshall, Cocaine & Marijuana Trafficking, South Dakota 2020

The streets of St. Francis, South Dakota, have been shaken by a recent indictment of Antonio Marshall, a 21-year-old man accused of playing a significant role in the local cocaine and marijuana trade.

United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced that a federal grand jury has indicted Marshall on charges of Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine and Marijuana, and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

The indictment alleges that between January 1st, 2017, and March 1st, 2018, Marshall knowingly and intentionally conspired to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana, while also possessing three firearms in January 2018, despite being an unlawful user of controlled substances.

As part of his alleged crimes, Marshall is facing a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in federal prison and/or a $1,000,000 fine, in addition to up to a lifetime of supervised release and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Marshall made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on March 13, 2020, and pled not guilty to the indictment. He was released on bond pending trial, with a date yet to be set.

The investigation into Marshall's alleged crimes was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges is prosecuting the case, which is part of the Department of Justice's renewed focus on targeting violent criminals and reducing gun violence through its Project Safe Neighborhoods and Project Guardian initiatives.

Marshall's case highlights the dangers of drug trafficking, a violent activity often associated with the possession and use of firearms. As the investigation continues, the community of St. Francis can rest assured that law enforcement is working tirelessly to make their neighborhoods safer.

Until proven guilty, Marshall remains presumed innocent, and his trial date will be set at a later time.

The defendant's current status is that he is out on bond pending trial.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 20 years in federal prison and/or a $1,000,000 fine, up to a lifetime of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
