Antonio Zamora, Methamphetamine Distribution, California 2023
Fresno, California - In a major blow to the city's methamphetamine trade, a 36-year-old Mexican citizen was sentenced to nearly five years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy.
Antonio Zamora, a 36-year-old from Mexico, was handed a four-year and nine-month prison sentence for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced.
According to court documents, Zamora facilitated the delivery of 5 pounds of methamphetamine to an undercover agent, and an additional pound of methamphetamine was found at his residence when agents executed a federal search warrant.
The case was the product of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Fresno Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica A. Massey prosecuted the case.
Zamora's sentencing marks a significant victory for law enforcement agencies in the region, which have been working tirelessly to disrupt the flow of illicit substances into the community.
As part of the ongoing investigation, several other defendants are scheduled to stand trial on August 14, 2023. However, Zamora's sentence serves as a stark reminder that those involved in the methamphetamine trade will be held accountable for their actions.
The charges against Zamora are only allegations, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
