Armando Machorro-Rojas, Illegal Reentry, Connecticut 2023

Published March 9, 2020

A Norwalk man has been sentenced to jail time for reentering the United States after being deported, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut.

Armando Machorro-Rojas, 43, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced to seven months of imprisonment, time already served, for illegally reentering the U.S. after being deported.

Machorro-Rojas has been deported from the U.S. five times, including in 2007, 2012, 2015, and twice in 2019.

The most recent deportation occurred in July 2019, after he pleaded guilty to illegal reentry of a removed alien. However, he was arrested by Norwalk Police in May 2019 for burglary, risk of injury, larceny, breach of peace, and interfering/resisting arrest. An immigration detainer was lodged with state authorities, but it was not honored, and Machorro-Rojas was released on bond in July 2019.

Machorro-Rojas was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers on August 9, 2019, and subsequently pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal reentry of a removed alien on December 6, 2019.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Machorro-Rojas had previous encounters with U.S. Border Patrol in March 2007, March 2012, March 2015, and June 2015, resulting in his voluntary return to Mexico each time.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Deborah Slater and Brendan Keefe.
