Armed Career Criminal, 2 Others, Get Prison Time for Gun Crimes, Alabama 2024

A federal judge in Alabama has handed down prison sentences to three men, including an armed career criminal, for their roles in gun crimes.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama, 32-year-old Quentin Bernard Brown of Birmingham was sentenced to 78 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Brown, who has a prior conviction for first-degree robbery, was caught carrying a gun at the Savannah Square Mall in 2022. He was subsequently charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, a felony offense.

On a separate case, 29-year-old Antonio Lamont Johnson of Tuscaloosa was sentenced to 60 months in prison for discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

Johnson was accused of firing shots in a neighborhood in 2022, causing fear and panic among residents. He was charged with discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, a federal offense.

The third defendant, 36-year-old James Edward Harris of Bessemer, was sentenced to 60 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Harris, who has a prior conviction for armed robbery, was caught with a gun in 2022. He was subsequently charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, a felony offense.

U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, Prim F. Escalona, said in a statement that the sentences handed down by the court demonstrate the seriousness of gun crimes in the community.

‘These sentences show that we will not tolerate gun violence in our communities,’ Escalona said. ‘We will continue to work tirelessly to keep our streets safe and hold accountable those who commit these crimes.’
