A brutal assault has shaken the community of Little Eagle, South Dakota, as Arthur Taken Alive, Jr., was sentenced to federal prison for putting his intimate partner in a life-threatening situation.

On October 10, 2018, Taken Alive got into an argument with the victim and assaulted her by placing his hand over her mouth, making it difficult for the victim to breathe. This heinous act led to a federal indictment and a lengthy court battle.

Taken Alive, 52, a resident of Little Eagle, was found guilty of Assault of an Intimate Partner by Strangulation and Domestic Assault by a Habitual Offender. The conviction was a significant blow to the defendant, who had previously been accused of domestic violence.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirsten Jasper prosecuted the case.

Taken Alive was arrested and subsequently turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. On December 4, 2019, he was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $200.

The harsh sentence is a testament to the severity of the crime and the dedication of law enforcement agencies in bringing the perpetrator to justice.

The community of Little Eagle can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that the man responsible for putting his intimate partner in harm's way will face the consequences of his actions.
