A Montgomery man has been sentenced to 81 months in prison for federal drug and firearms charges, announced United States Attorney Louis V. Franklin, Sr.
Augustus Chico Lowe, 34, of Montgomery, Alabama, was sentenced on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in connection with a drug distribution crime.
Lowe will be subject to three years of supervised release after serving his nearly seven-year sentence, which includes a minimum of 21 months for the drug charge and 60 months for the firearm charge, running consecutive to any other sentence.
Court records show that in December of 2016, Lowe was found to be in possession of approximately 26 baggies of powder cocaine and a handgun during a traffic stop by the Montgomery Police Department.
Possession of a firearm in connection with drug trafficking carries a minimum sentence of five years in prison. Lowe received 60 months for the firearm charge.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Montgomery Police Department investigated this case, with assistance from the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Bradley Bodiford and Robert Nichols prosecuted the case.
