A Kalona man was sentenced on April 7, 2026, to 25 years in federal prison for sexual exploitation and attempted sexual exploitation of a child.
Austin W. Jones, 34, was found guilty of one count of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of attempted sexual exploitation of a child.
This was not Jones’s first brush with the law, as he had previously been convicted of a similar crime in 2019.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa said that Jones’s actions were a clear violation of the trust placed in him by the community.
Jones’s sentencing comes as a relief to the victims of his crimes and their families, who have been waiting for justice for far too long.
The case against Jones was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with the assistance of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa praised the cooperation and dedication of all agencies involved in the case.
Jones will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
The case against Jones is a stark reminder of the importance of protecting our children from predators and holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
