Bennett S. Park, Child Sex Abuse, Washington 2023

A Snohomish County man's heinous crimes have finally caught up with him. Bennett S. Park, a 43-year-old resident of Snohomish County, pleaded guilty to production of images of child sexual abuse and attempted enticement of minors in U.S. District Court in Seattle.

According to the plea agreement, Park responded to an online ad placed by an undercover Homeland Security Investigation agent in July 2023. The agent had falsely claimed to have two young children that could be molested. In his response, Park indicated that he was actively molesting children between the ages of 11 and 17.

Park's crimes did not go unnoticed for long. Law enforcement quickly put him under surveillance to identify and protect the 13-year-old he had attempted to pick up. Just after 1:45 am on August 8, 2023, law enforcement arrested Park just after the 13-year-old got in his vehicle.

A review of Park's electronic devices revealed that he had communicated with dozens of minors. Twenty-three of the minor victims were identified. Park had convinced them to provide images of sexual abuse via Instagram, Discord, Snapchat, Facebook, Gmail, and Zoom platforms.

The production of child pornography is punishable by a mandatory minimum 15 years in prison and up to 30 years in prison. Attempted enticement of a minor is punishable by a mandatory minimum 10 years in prison and up to life in prison.

Park's sentencing is scheduled for April 25, 2025, where prosecutors will recommend no more than 25 years in prison, and the defense will recommend no less than 20 years.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. government to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
