Brevard County Man Sentenced for Receiving and Possessing Child Pornography
Orlando, Florida – A Brevard County man has been sentenced to 10 years and 1 month in federal prison for receiving and possessing child pornography.
U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton, Jr. handed down the sentence to Billie Jay Rufrano, 31, of Titusville, on charges of receiving and possessing child pornography.
Rufrano was indicted on January 14, 2015, and he pleaded guilty on April 28, 2015, according to court documents.
On October 3, 2014, a state search warrant was executed at Rufrano’s residence and several computers were seized. Forensic analyses of the computer media subsequently revealed 223 movies and 114 images depicting child pornography.
This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ilianys Rivera Miranda.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Rufrano was ordered to pay restitution to two victims as part of his sentence. The exact amount was not specified in court documents.
