Brandon Hill, Preparing and Filing False Tax Returns, Pennsylvania 2013

Published April 9, 2015

Brandon Hill, a 32-year-old man from Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty to preparing and filing false tax returns. According to the United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Hill submitted approximately 60 false returns for himself and others between 2009 and 2011.

The total amount of refunds that Hill falsely claimed was a staggering $291,103. The investigation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Lorna N. Graham handling the prosecution.

Hill was charged in September 2013. The case is currently being held for sentencing, with a senior judge to impose a sentence after considering the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

Under the federal statute, the maximum penalty for Hill's crime is five years' imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. However, the actual sentence imposed will depend on a number of factors, including the nature, circumstances, and seriousness of the offense, as well as Hill's history and characteristics.

The judge will also consider the need to punish Hill, protect the public, and provide for his educational, vocational, and medical needs. As a result, the statutory maximum penalty is not an accurate indicator of the potential sentence for a specific defendant.

The guilty plea is a significant development in the case, and it is expected that Hill will face a substantial sentence for his crimes. The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspected tax-related crimes to the authorities.

As this is a developing story, further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
