Brandon Todd, Making False Statements, New York 2013

Published November 18, 2014

ROCHESTER, N.Y.-- In a shocking case of deception, Brandon Todd, 20, of Naples, New York, was sentenced to 12 months in prison and three years supervised release by U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr. for making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Todd, who had previously contacted the FBI in April and early May 2013 claiming to have information about sex trafficking, went on to make false statements to an FBI Special Agent on July 10, 2013. He claimed to have recruited approximately 49 girls for a sex trafficking ring and to be a member of a gang, stating that these claims were true when, in fact, he knew they were false.

The FBI launched a thorough investigation into Todd's claims after he made the initial contact, but it was not until his false statements were made that the full extent of his deception became clear.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer M. Noto, who handled the case, praised the FBI's diligent work in uncovering the truth behind Todd's claims.

Todd's sentencing marks the culmination of an investigation by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
