Mexican National Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison for Methamphetamine Charge
OMAHA, NE - In a significant blow to the opioid epidemic, a Mexican national has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine operation.
Brayan De La Cruz Cuahutzihua, 24, of Ixtapaluca, Mexico, was sentenced on August 2, 2024, in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Cuahutzihua was involved in a methamphetamine trafficking ring that operated in Omaha. On October 27, 2022, FBI agents utilized a confidential informant who purchased one pound of meth from Cuahutzihua in the back parking lot of the Nebraska Furniture Mart located at 72nd Street, Omaha, NE.
Cuahutzihua was accompanied by codefendants Francis C. Murillo and Jesus Manuel Sauceeda Perea when they arrived at the meet location in the same vehicle. The investigation also revealed that Cuahutzihua was involved in the sale of multiple pounds of marijuana and possessed over $41,000 in drug proceeds.
On March 3, 2023, agents obtained a federal search warrant for the defendants' South Omaha residence, which resulted in the discovery of approximately six pounds of meth, 19 pounds of marijuana, and multiple cellular devices.
Cuahutzihua will serve 168 months in prison, followed by deportation to Mexico, as he is not a United States citizen. His codefendants, Murillo and Sauceeda Perea, are awaiting trial at a date yet to be scheduled.
The case was investigated by the Omaha Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
In related news, the money seized from Cuahutzihua's operation has been administratively forfeited to the government, amounting to $41,784.00.
