Bank Robber Indicted in New Orleans

Bernell Breaux, a 57-year-old resident of New Orleans, has been charged with bank robbery and attempted bank robbery in Louisiana. The charges stem from incidents on January 2, 2020, at a Gulf Coast Bank and Trust Company branch and a Capital One Bank branch in the Eastern District of Louisiana.

According to court documents, Breaux attempted to rob the Gulf Coast Bank and Trust Company branch in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113(a) on January 2, 2020. Additionally, on the same date, Breaux robbed a Capital One Bank branch of approximately $302.00 in violation of the same section of the code.

If convicted, Breaux faces a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty (20) years, a (3) year period of supervised release, and a maximum fine of $250,000 for each count. The indictment is merely a charge, and the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jesse Eshkol. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Violent Crime Task Force, which is a key part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative.
