Bree Eberbaugh, Fentanyl Possession with Intent to Distribute, West Virginia 2017

A Kanawha County woman was sentenced to 54 months in federal prison for her role in a fentanyl trafficking operation in West Virginia.

Bree Eberbaugh, 28, of Charleston, admitted to helping arrange sales of the deadly opioid and acknowledged that some of the substance had been sold just prior to her arrest in 2017.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Eberbaugh's apartment was raided on August 28, 2017, pursuant to a search warrant. During the search, over 50 grams of fentanyl were discovered.

Eberbaugh claimed that she believed she was selling heroin at the time, but forensic analysts later determined the substance to be fentanyl.

'Fentanyl is a deadly killer,' said U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart. 'My office is working overtime to pursue every lead and root out every purveyor of the poisons killing our communities.'

Eberbaugh's sentencing hearing was held before U.S. District Judge David A. Faber. Assistant U.S. Attorney L. Alexander Hamner handled the prosecution.

Eberbaugh will also serve three years on supervised release after her prison term.
