South Bend, IN – A Granger man has been locked up for making a threatening phone call to a public official.

Brett Keiling, 49, was sentenced by District Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 27 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to the felony offense of threatening to assault an employee of the United States with intent to impede the performance of official duties.

According to court documents, on January 24, 2011, Keiling made a telephone threat to an employee of then Congressman Joseph Donnelly’s office. He has been in federal custody since that date.

The case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Barbara Brook.

As part of his supervised release, Keiling is subject to numerous conditions, including having no contact with any public official’s office without first obtaining the permission of the United States Probation Office.
