Brian David 'Blaze' Boersma, Kidnapping and Child Sex-Trafficking, Alabama 2017
Brian David 'Blaze' Boersma, a 48-year-old man from Decatur, Alabama, has pleaded guilty to a string of heinous crimes, including attempted kidnapping of a minor, attempted kidnapping, attempted sex trafficking of a child, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime.
According to court records, Boersma's crimes date back to the fall of 2017, when he conspired with a coworker at the Alabama Farmers' Cooperative to kidnap a woman and her 14-year-old daughter. Boersma gave his coworker $3,440 to hold as payment for the kidnapping, and boasted to him that he would sell the child to a pimp in Memphis, Tennessee, for as much as $40,000.
Boersma's plan was to kidnap the woman and her daughter, and then sell the child to the pimp. He had even outfitted a trailer at the co-op with a mattress and restraints for holding the mother and daughter, and had built a metal 'sex device' to be used on the woman. He also planned to bury the woman's body under a nearby bridge after killing her.
Boersma's crimes were discovered after his coworker alerted the FBI, who sent two undercover agents to pose as willing kidnappers. Boersma was arrested on October 10, 2017, after meeting with the undercover agents at a Decatur hotel. A loaded Smith & Wesson M&P .40-caliber pistol was recovered from his pickup truck during a subsequent search.
Boersma's sentence has not yet been determined, but the prison penalty for attempted kidnapping of a minor is a minimum of 20 years. Attempted sex trafficking of children carries a prison sentence of up to life in prison.
U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town and FBI Special Agent in Charge Johnnie Sharp Jr. condemned Boersma's crimes, calling them 'the worst parts of human depravity.' 'He will spend most, if not all, of the remainder of his life in prison...and then he has hell to look forward to,' Town said.
Boersma's crimes are a stark reminder of the horrors of human trafficking and the importance of vigilance in preventing such crimes. As Sharp noted, 'Human trafficking steals the innocence from our children and young women, and individuals like Boersma, who prey upon the vulnerable, need to be removed from our society.'
