NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - A brazen shootout at the Jung Hotel on Canal Street left a trail of destruction and bloodshed, but for Brian Jacob, the real consequence was a lengthy prison sentence.

On December 28, 2020, Jacob, 23, from New Orleans, was involved in a shootout at the Jung Hotel, which led to his arrest and subsequent guilty plea to several firearm and drug charges.

In the aftermath of the shootout, Jacob pleaded guilty to possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, participating in a conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute quantities of marijuana, and illegally maintaining a drug involved premises.

On May 23, 2023, Jacob entered his guilty plea, and on October 31, 2023, he was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Greg G. Guidry.

Jacob received a total sentence of 97 months imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised release. He must also pay a $300.00 special assessment fee.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country.

The case was investigated by the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Maurice E. Landrieu, Jr. and Elizabeth Privitera were in charge of the prosecution.
