Brian Wimsatt, Heroin Distribution, Tennessee 2016
Heroin distribution has claimed another victim in Tennessee, as the state sees a rise in opioid-related deaths. A federal grand jury has indicted 29-year-old Brian Wimsatt of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, on charges of conspiracy, possession, and distribution of heroin, with the use of which resulted in death.
According to the indictment, on May 13, 2016, Wimsatt sold heroin to an individual who died shortly after using it. Just four days later, on May 17, 2016, Wimsatt was arrested by law enforcement officers and found to be in possession of heroin once again.
The indictment also states that Wimsatt faces a mandatory minimum term of twenty years in prison up to life, as well as a possible fine of up to $1,000,000.
Wimsatt is currently in custody, awaiting trial. The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the 18th Judicial District Drug Task Force, and the Goodlettsville, Tennessee, Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Ahmed A. Safeeullah leading the prosecution.
While an indictment is merely an accusation, Wimsatt is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If convicted, the consequences will be severe, with a prison sentence ranging from twenty years to life and a significant fine.
The rise of opioid-related deaths in Tennessee is a growing concern. Heroin distribution cases like this one serve as a reminder of the devastating impact of these crimes.
Wimsatt's charges include conspiracy, possession, and distribution of heroin, with the use of which resulted in death. The case is being prosecuted in the Middle District of Tennessee.
