Bruce Sartwell, Unregistered Firearms, Massachusetts 2020
BOSTON - A high-ranking member of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club is facing the consequences of a firearms-related crime. Bruce Sartwell, a/k/a “Monster,” 48, of East Bridgewater, was sentenced to 27 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release for possession of an unregistered firearm and 153 rounds of 5.56 caliber ammunition.
Sartwell, the Regional President of the Brockton/East Bridgewater Chapter of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club, pleaded guilty to the charges in July 2020. The sentencing took place on an unspecified date.
The investigation into Sartwell began in October 2019, when agents intercepted a package from China containing a firearm silencer. A review of importation records revealed that Sartwell had received approximately 65 shipments from Asia, many of which were labeled as innocuous items that could have been more easily and cheaply purchased in the United States.
During a search of Sartwell’s residence, agents discovered a homemade AR-15 styled “ghost gun” and a firearm silencer in a hidden compartment. They also found guides showing how to build an AR-15 rifle, as well as tools and additional parts to assemble the same. The AR-15 was later successfully test fired.
In addition to the firearms and ammunition, agents found 20 knives, a black powder handgun, and a flare gun in Sartwell’s bedroom. A hidden storage area in the basement contained a safe with silencer parts and a firearm assembly instruction book.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lindsey E. Weinstein and Kenneth G. Shine, with the assistance of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Customs and Border Protection, Massachusetts State Police, East Bridgewater Police Department, Bristol County Sheriff’s Office, and the Massachusetts Environmental Protection Agency.
Sartwell’s sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of firearms-related crimes. The Outlaws Motorcycle Club, with its roots in organized crime, has long been a target of law enforcement agencies.
The sentencing of Bruce Sartwell marks a significant victory for law enforcement in their ongoing efforts to combat firearms trafficking and organized crime.
