Sacramento Man Charged with Receipt of Child Pornography

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Bryan Paul Tamblyn, 36, of Sacramento, has been charged with receipt of child pornography. A federal grand jury returned an indictment on Jan. 16 against Tamblyn, charging him with receipt of child pornography, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced.

The indictment alleges that between July 4, 2018 and Aug. 20, 2019, Tamblyn knowingly received visual depictions of children engaging in sexually explicit conduct. This case is the product of an investigation by the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, and the Sacramento Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a federally and state-funded task force managed by the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department with agents from federal, state, and local agencies.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina McCall is prosecuting the case. If convicted, Tamblyn faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison, a minimum sentence of five years in prison, up to a lifetime of supervised release following a custodial sentence, a $250,000 fine, and restitution to the victims of the offense. Any sentence, however, would be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.

The charges are only allegations; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Tamblyn is currently facing these charges in federal court.

The investigation was led by the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department and the Sacramento Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. This case is a reminder that law enforcement agencies are working hard to combat online child exploitation and bring perpetrators to justice.
