A brazen multistate burglary ring, spanning most of the continental US, was dismantled after its leader, Colombian national John Sebastian Quintero-Herrera, was sentenced to 70 months in prison for orchestrating the operation.
Quintero-Herrera, a key player in the ring that featured six other defendants, was the last to be sentenced. All seven defendants were in the US illegally.
US District Judge Jane M. Beckering expressed outrage over the defendants’ ‘Ocean’s Eleven-style’ operation, describing the burglaries as leaving behind ‘ransacked houses’ with a ‘bone-chilling’ effect on homeowners.
The ring, which targeted homes across the US, made over $1.5 million in stolen goods and cash, but perhaps the most precious thing they stole from their victims was their sense of security and safety.
