A Hulbert resident has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for federal firearms offenses.

Cairl Glenn Hayes, Jr., 48, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Hayes was discovered in possession of a firearm during a traffic stop in Cherokee County, Oklahoma.

Hayes was initially arrested on April 26, 2022, for Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

However, Hayes was again discovered in possession of a firearm during a traffic stop in Cherokee County on July 10, 2023. He was indicted for a second incident of being a felon in possession of a firearm and pleaded guilty to the charge.

Assistant United States Attorney Richard J. Lorenz represented the United States in the case.

The Honorable Keith Starrett, U.S. District Judge, presided over the hearings in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

The Court ordered the sentences in each case to run concurrently. Hayes was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.

The case was investigated by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
