Border Patrol Agent Assaulted in New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – On May 15, 2026, a U.S. Border Patrol agent was assaulted by a suspect while detained on suspicion of alien smuggling in the El Paso Sector.
Caleb Brown, 32, shoved and then punched the agent in the face. A second agent intervened and was also struck by Brown. Brown was eventually subdued and arrested.
Brown has been charged with assault on a federal officer, a felony offense punishable by up to 20 years in prison. His case is being prosecuted as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat illegal immigration and protect law enforcement personnel.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico is working closely with the FBI and the U.S. Border Patrol to ensure that those who assault federal officers are brought to justice.
“Protecting law enforcement officers is a key part of border security,” said a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who harm our officers are held accountable.”
Caleb Brown is currently being held without bond pending trial.
