Cameron Bivins-Breeden, Possession of a Prohibited Object in Prison, Pennsylvania 2018
Federal authorities in Pennsylvania have taken a 26-year-old inmate off the streets, at least for now. Cameron Bivins-Breeden, a resident of the Federal Correctional Institution in Loretto, Pa., was recently indicted by a federal grand jury in Johnstown for possession of a prohibited object in prison.
The indictment, announced by United States Attorney Scott W. Brady, alleged that on November 7, 2018, Bivins-Breeden possessed a quantity of Buprenorphine, a prescription drug.
Bivins-Breeden, who is currently behind bars, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 or both. The actual sentence would be based on the seriousness of the offense and the defendant's prior criminal history, according to the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The investigation into Bivins-Breeden's alleged prescription drug possession was led by the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Correctional Institution, Special Investigative Staff.
Assistant United States Attorney Arnold P. Bernard, Jr. is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. Bivins-Breeden is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
While behind bars, Bivins-Breeden is not exactly off the hook. The law provides for a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 or both. The actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant, Cameron Bivins-Breeden.
This case serves as a stark reminder that even behind bars, inmates are not immune to the law. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, along with the US Attorney's Office and the Federal Correctional Institution, are working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served.
An indictment is merely an accusation and does not constitute a finding of guilt. However, in this case, the allegations against Cameron Bivins-Breeden are serious, and the consequences are severe.
